North Lanarkshire Council has permitted extraction and remediation works throughout 200 acres of the 1,200-acre plot – unlocking the subsequent section of brownfield regeneration scheme.

The cleared space alone may finally assist as much as 2,000 houses alongside industrial, leisure and green-space growth.
The permitted zone contains Meadowhead subsequent to new city park The Craig, land across the Ravenscraig Regional Sports activities Facility, and plots north of New School Lanarkshire’s Motherwell Campus.
Ravenscraig director Russell Wilkie mentioned the approval “turns once-unusable industrial land right into a viable location for residential growth that may breathe new life into the world.”
Council chief Jim Logue mentioned the authority’s new street and active-travel hyperlinks from Motherwell to Ravenscraig had been “important to open up the positioning to allow additional funding.”
The JV behind the scheme – Barratt Developments, Tata Metal and Scottish Enterprise – has already invested £250m in long-term plans to rework the previous steelworks, which closed in 1992.
